Tundra
Swan/Bald Eagle Tour, 2004 -- The Eagles
|
||
On November 13, 2004 I went on a Tundra Swan/Bald Eagle viewing tour to Wabasha, MN and Nelson, WI. On the Wisconsin side we saw the swans, along with a few ducks and coots. On the Minnesota side we saw more swans, and bald eagles in flight and on the ground at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha. Though I wasn't able to get a shot of anything on the wing, below are pictures of two of the Center's three resident Bald Eagles, Columbia and Angel. | ||
Here is Columbia,
a permanent resident of the National Eagle Center. She suffered wing damage
and cannot be returned to the wild. |

While we were
at the Center, it was feeding time for Columbia. Here are a few shots
of her attacking half a frozen rat. |

One of the
features of the visitors' program is a chance to take a picture of one
of the eagles posing in front of a giant American flag. This time it's
Columbia's turn. |

This is Angel,
who is still too young to have all her white head and tail feathers. She
too is permanently grounded at the Center. |

. ©2004 Xan Laurence Angel decided
the program was over, but her handler didn't think so. So there's a bit
of a tussle as she tries to get back to her perch and can't. |
