Tundra Swan/Bald Eagle Tour, 2004 -- The Eagles

On November 13, 2004 I went on a Tundra Swan/Bald Eagle viewing tour to Wabasha, MN and Nelson, WI. On the Wisconsin side we saw the swans, along with a few ducks and coots. On the Minnesota side we saw more swans, and bald eagles in flight and on the ground at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha. Though I wasn't able to get a shot of anything on the wing, below are pictures of two of the Center's three resident Bald Eagles, Columbia and Angel.

Here is Columbia, a permanent resident of the National Eagle Center. She suffered wing damage and cannot be returned to the wild.

While we were at the Center, it was feeding time for Columbia. Here are a few shots of her attacking half a frozen rat.

One of the features of the visitors' program is a chance to take a picture of one of the eagles posing in front of a giant American flag. This time it's Columbia's turn.

This is Angel, who is still too young to have all her white head and tail feathers. She too is permanently grounded at the Center.

Angel decided the program was over, but her handler didn't think so. So there's a bit of a tussle as she tries to get back to her perch and can't.
